We believe that meaningful democracy can only come about if all the City’s communities are actively involved in coming up with solutions to the economic and environmental challenges facing San Francisco. That means removing language barriers for the approximately 34% of San Franciscans who are immigrants. It also means that immigrant communities have the right to live without fear of harassment and deportation.

We work with a coalition of organizations to educate immigrants on their legal rights and to access legal services. In addition we work to enforce San Francisco’s language access laws, which are among the strongest in the country.

Finally, we implement a multi-pronged civic engagement strategy in order to advance issues that are a priority for Latino immigrant families and other communities of color—affordable housing, youth’s rights, environmental justice as well as government and corporate accountability. Nonpartisan voter engagement is part of a long-term strategy to build people power, increase the civic participation of immigrant communities and strengthen democracy.
