SNAG (Seven Native American Generations) Magazine and PODER’s Urban Campesinos invite you to our Skill Share five session series: Traditional Basket Making in San Francisco.
Together we will be learning the process of making traditional baskets, gathering native grasses, drying them and weaving them.
Our basket instructor will be Edward Willie (Pomo/Wailaki). Edward learned how to make baskets from other California Native basket makers, including the highly respected Mabel Mckay and members of the California Indian Basketweavers Association.
We will host a basket exhibition in May with final baskets woven by participants.
We request that all participants try to be available for all five workshops.
This workshop is open to all ages. Youth 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Workshops will be free, but we will be asking for donations to cover costs for food and other workshop costs.
Food will be provided by Urban Campesinos youth organizers. All meals will be indigenous plant based.
